About Qwujo

Manifesto

Queer Antwerp deserves its own voice.

Not chance encounters. Intentional connection.

The name Qwujo is a blend of two words: Queer and Àwùjọ. Àwùjọ — pronounced ah-woo-dzjo — is a Yoruba word meaning community, gathering and shared space. That meaning is the foundation of everything Qwujo wants to be.

Qwujo was made for queer people in Antwerp who want more than a list of addresses. It is a curated guide that brings places together, highlights events and makes services visible — not as a search engine, but as an editorial voice that takes the queer culture of this city seriously.

Qwujo. Made to be together.

Queer community Antwerp

Our mission

Why Qwujo

Qwujo [Kwoo-djo] is an all-in-one queer platform for Antwerp, born from a very concrete need: in an online world overflowing with information, it's often hard to know where to look for relevant, safe and positive queer places, initiatives and connections. Qwujo wants to lower that barrier by bringing everything together in one clear place.

Our audience consists of queer people in and around Antwerp, but also allies, newcomers, entrepreneurs and organisers looking for visibility, connection and community. We see a strong need for a platform that not only informs, but above all connects.

The concept of Qwujo revolves around visibility, discovery and community-building. Through the platform and our communication on Instagram, we bring together initiatives, stories and collaborations in an accessible way. This expands the reach of involved organisations and entrepreneurs, while strengthening recognition and trust within the community.

Organizations, entrepreneurs and partners can claim and manage their own profile. The Qwujo feed brings curated highlights together and community topics connect people per city — around events, tickets, accessibility and more.

Our approach

What sets Qwujo apart

Editorial

Every listing is hand-selected. No algorithm, no automatic entry — only places, events and services that genuinely fit the queer community in Antwerp.

Honest & transparent

Qwujo clearly distinguishes between editorial listings and paid visibility. What's paid is labelled. What we recommend, we write ourselves.

Local & focused

Qwujo is about local queer communities — not a national aggregator, not an algorithm following global trends. Local knowledge, local voice.

Community-driven

Qwujo grows through community contributions. Reviews, suggestions and feedback from real users form the foundation of what the platform becomes.

Grow with us

Qwujo is by the community, for the community.

We grow deliberately. From a curated guide into a living platform, carried by the people who use it. Every review, every saved favourite and every contribution helps queer-friendly places and entrepreneurs stand stronger in Antwerp.

Know a place, event or service that belongs here? Send a suggestion. Had an experience? Write a review. Every voice counts.
